Welcome, one and all, to the (hopefully) exciting and quick blog of the build of our new house! As most of you will know, Kate and I bought some land, and decided to build a beautiful house on it. So far we have not had much stress, but I have a feeling that there may be some of that down the road a bit..We have signed the contract, and have been waiting for a while for things to get going, and all of a sudden they have!! We have sand, and Blocks on our block... Now I am sure that that does not interest most of you, but it is progress.
We have to have a pad of sand 800mm high to lay the foundation on. This is to take up any movement that may happen due the the normal shifting of the soil surface. In our case we have decided to "enclose" this sand pad in a wall of largs limestone blocks. This is the first stage. Once the sand has been compacted, the builders will "throw" the slab, and then the house will shoot up on top of it.
This means that if we have blocks on our block, we have progress. We went out last saturday and bought a whole heap of plants for the garden, and will be planting them this weekend coming - 10th July - and it will be raining!! Oh well I guess we need it.
First bit of stress has come in the guise of our hot water system. It seems that it may not be able to work correctly on our house... We are still enjoying robust discussions with the builder as to how we will fix it, but hopefully it will be resolved forthwith...We have also discovered that we do have natural gas on our street - nice of the people we paid to check that sort of thing out for us to tell us!! So we need to get that little matter sorted as well.
Other than that - super. I hope to post photo's at some stage soon, and once I get the hang of it I may even keep it up to date!! I will try.
Cheers and speak soon,
Brad and Kate
